Thought du jour . . .

It's not the power of the curse - it's the power you give the curse.

Couple that one with this - Your Heart is Free . . . Have the Courage to Follow It.

And what have you got?

The best way to live. Some would say the only way. Because I like thinking for myself, and I love letting others do the same, I'm just gonna let that all sink in in whatever makes sense to you. We all have our own stories going on, and we all see shades of truth differently. These two sayings may ring true for me in a different way than it does for you, and I celebrate that.

So what's your curse?

Vanity of vanities . . . hey, I'm tired.

K, my friend Melena, who introduced me to this crazy world of blogger, is to blame. All I was trying to do was start on a little friends list like the one she has. Instead, we end up with narcissism personified - I am my own follower. I have no idea how that happened, and I don't care.

I blame this all on the fact that melena is from maine, NOT on my own tiredness / stupidity / basic clueless navigating sans know how around this page / site / screw it I'm going to bed.

Also, going home April 21. Woot.

Slumdog Millionaire . . . .

K, first things first. Watch the movie.

Done? Alright. What did you think. That's not hypothetical, allegorical, metaphysical, rhetorical, or any other -al. I really want to know. Honest.

It is, quite possibly, my favorite movie of all time. It's got some stiff competition from some movies that have always touched a really tender place inside me, but it's up there. Why? I already told you, kind of. It touched a really tender place inside me.

A friend who had already seen the movie when a few of us went to see it in theatre commented on my facial expressions while watching it. Apparently, and totally unbeknownst to me, I was smiling through tears at the climax. And all throughout, the story of Jamal and Latika captivated me.

It's our story, isn't it? At one point, Latika asks Jamal to forget about her, to move on, to leave her alone. He can't. His love for her compels him to constantly pursue her. It doesn't matter what kind of personal hell she's been through, he finds her beautiful. No matter how much time or distance separates them, he will always love her, for, as he says, its their destiny.

Now, not that I don't enjoy the centuries old predestination / free will debate, but here is not where I will enter it. What I love is the reckless love of Jamal. Those who have seen it know what I mean when I say that he did it ALL just so she would see him, know that he loves her.

Is the heart of our God that much different? Yes, there is tragedy, and that tragedy by and large comes from the independent choices of a race that, as a group, demands independence from independence's consequences. We don't want God to dictate how we live, but we want him to rescue us from our own stupidity, and the stupidity of others who, equally, demand autonomy.

And so, we go on, thinking our own small worlds of our own small makings are the single most significant thing out there . . . . maybe, just maybe, God made the night sky so wonderful just to keep us small. Just to help us realize that we're not all that.

Just so we could see Him.
